The Sahel

People in the Sahel need access to the good news of who Jesus is and what He's done for us.

The Sahel is home to the densest cluster of people groups in Africa without access to the good news of who Jesus is and what He’s done for us. The people living in this 5,000-kilometre belt of land face many difficulties, including violence by extremist groups, ongoing drought and economic insecurity.

Sharing Love in the Sahel

Through Jesus, the Sahel has hope. By the power of the Holy Spirit, Christ followers are equipping and sending teams of same- and near-culture believers to make disciples in the Sahel. There are many opportunities to also share Jesus’ love practically and promote human flourishing through relief and development programmes.

Jesus Followers in the Sahel

Very few Jesus followers live in the Sahel; indeed, in the eastern regions, Christians make up less than 4% of the local population. Being Muslim defines the lifestyles and identities of many in the Sahel, and the gospel message faces pressure from cultural and political authorities.
